About Medplux

Medplux is a women’s health and general medical education website created to explain everyday health problems in simple language.

Our goal is to help women (and their partners) understand their bodies, their lab tests, and their treatment options without medical jargon – so they can make better decisions before, during and after seeing a doctor.

Medplux is led by Dr. Akatakpo Dunn, a Nigerian medical doctor, lead obstetrician and ultrasonologist, who serves as the head and chief editor of the website.

With our desire and your support, we will continue to teach medical conditions in a way that people with little or no medical background can understand.

While growing up, it was difficult to get a clear explanation of basic medical problems.
This experience drives me to explain health issues in simple terms for patients, medical students and anyone who wants to understand their health.

Who is Dr. Dunn?about-medplux

I am a medical doctor duly registered with the
Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) and the
Nigerian Medical Association (NMA).

I graduated from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) with an MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) degree.

After graduation, I completed:

  • One-year compulsory internship/house job at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), Enugu State, Nigeria

  • National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at Presbyterian Joint Hospital, Uburu, Ebonyi State, where I worked in general medical practice

Today, I am the Medical Director, lead obstetrician and ultrasonologist at Verah Clinic & Maternity in Warri, Delta State, Nigeria, where I focus on:

  • Women’s health and fertility care

  • Pregnancy and delivery (antenatal care, labour and postpartum)

  • Diagnostic ultrasound (abdominal, pelvic, obstetric and small parts)

  • General medical practice in a busy private clinic setting

Qualifications & Training

To keep the information on Medplux up to date and practical, I have completed additional training in women’s health and ultrasound, including:

  • MBBS – University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN)

  • Postgraduate Diploma in Diagnostic Ultrasound (India)

  • Professional Diploma in Obstetrics & Gynaecology – Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (RCPI)

  • USAID-sponsored Emergency Obstetrics and Newborn Care Course (BEmONC)

  • Multiple continuing medical education (CME) programmes in ultrasound, high-risk pregnancy, fertility and women’s health

On Medplux, I base my articles on current guidelines from organisations such as the World Health Organization (WHO), the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), NICE (UK) and RCPI, as well as major teaching hospitals. I regularly review and update posts as recommendations change.

These qualifications reflect my special interest in women’s health, pregnancy, fertility, ultrasound and practical patient care in a real-world African setting.

Working Experience

Over the years, I have gained hands-on experience in:

  • University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital – House Officer

  • Presbyterian Joint Hospital, Uburu – Senior Medical Officer

  • Verah Clinic & Maternity, Warri – Medical Director / Lead Obstetrician and Ultrasonologist

Clinical duties have included:

  • General medical practice covering internal medicine, surgery and obstetrics

  • Running general out-patient clinics and emergency calls (Accident & Emergency)

  • Antenatal clinics and intrapartum care

  • Performing surgeries

  • Providing ultrasound services for women’s health, pregnancy and abdominal conditions

I combine this real-life clinical experience with evidence-based guidelines to create articles that are practical, accurate and easy to understand.

How we create and review content

All medical articles on Medplux are written or medically reviewed by me, Dr Akatakpo Dunn.

I check facts against trusted sources such as WHO, ACOG, NICE, RCPI, MedlinePlus and major teaching hospitals. Articles are reviewed periodically and updated when new recommendations appear, especially for pregnancy, ultrasound and other women’s health topics.

Medplux is an independent website. I do not allow advertisers or sponsors to control the medical opinions in my articles. If I use affiliate links or sponsored content, it will be clearly disclosed. My first responsibility is to the patient or reader, not to any brand.

Why Medplux exists

Medplux was created for people who:

  • Feel confused by medical terms and lab reports

  • Want straight, honest explanations about women’s health, fertility and pregnancy

  • Live in places where it is hard to see a specialist or ask detailed questions

  • Prefer to read from a real doctor who actually sees patients, especially in low- and middle-income settings

I write as a clinician in daily practice, not as an anonymous writer. I see real women in the clinic, manage real emergencies, and answer real questions every day.
